SPIRITUAL DIRECTION MINISTRY I am delighted to have completed a certificate program in Spiritual Psychology, as well as a one-year program at the Interfaith Chaplaincy Institute in Berkley, CA, designed for the formation of Interfaith Spiritual Directors. Both build beautifully on my years of training and experience as hospital Chaplain, Interfaith minister, and Unitarian Universalist minister. My new private practice is called TENDING SPIRIT, with the tagline: Spiritual Courage in a Disruptive World. Contact me at [email protected] if you have questions about Spiritual Direction or want to set up a first free session now. I'd love to hear from you. First sessions take place in my office in Redwood City, CA - described by one client as "a truly sacred space". Once we've agreed to proceed we can meet monthly either in person, via Skype/Zoom, phone, or email. You can also follow my TendingSpirit Facebook page, where I post original artwork and reflections every day! What is Spiritual Direction? To start with, it's not what most people think! There's really no direction involved in spiritual direction; no "answers" are provided. It's not about me telling you what to believe or think or do. It's more about providing a space in which your life's experiences, your values and intentions, your sacred yearnings can be explored and mined for the kind of spiritual courage that empowers, creates meaning, ease, and joy. Spiritual Directors are trained to be thoughtful companions on one's spiritual journey - listening deeply, asking questions, offering the kind of guidance and encouragement that allows innate inner wisdom to emerge. It is not the same as analysis, therapy, or coaching, but can be of great benefit to those on one of those paths. Spiritual Direction can help you grow into greater intimacy with the Divine, even if you use different words to describe that which is mysterious and eternal. It helps you connect with the wisdom that brings clarity, focus, healing, bravery and joy to your life. It is a supportive, compassionate, confidential way to explore your own understanding of life's meaning and purpose, its grace, gifts, challenges, and potential. All of which seems particularly important during these disruptive times. While some Spiritual Directors work within a particular faith tradition (such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Unitarian Universalism, Buddhism or Hinduism), I am trained to work with people from all religious traditions as well as with those who might call themselves "spiritual but not religious". My goal is to meet you where you are, to help you identify the ways in which Spirit is active in your life, and to support you in deepening your relationship with empowered, joyful purpose, and meaning. * I have over 20 years of experience facilitating spiritually themed retreats and offering pastoral counseling sessions to individuals and groups, incorporating creative arts, movement, ritual, meditation, prayer, energy work and service. Ordained as both an Interfaith minister and a Unitarian Universalist minister (Fellowshipped and in good standing since 2008), I am excited to have most recently completed the Interfaith Chaplaincy Institute's Spiritual Direction Program, as well as the Spiritual Psychology program, and to be actively affiliated with Spiritual Director's International and the Unitarian Universalist Spiritual Directors Network If you are interested in learning more or are feeling ready to set aside time for focused spiritual exploration, contact me at: [email protected]. A new website dedicated to Spiritual Direction ministry (TendingSpirit.com) is currently under construction - thank you for your patience!) |
